The Crucifix that Spoke to St Francis

In 1206, Francis of Assisi heard a voice coming from the San Damiano Crucifix say three times, 'Francis, go and repair my Church'. This crucifix speaks to us also through the many details of its artwork, ornamentation and design.

The image of Jesus is dominant in the cross of San Damiano just as Jesus was dominant in the life of St Francis of Assisi.
